The Rotary Club of Ajijic is deeply concerned with the fact that huge numbers of children, here in Mexico, cannot attend prepartoria (high school) because their families cannot afford the cost of tuition, books, school supplies and uniforms.

Only 45 percnt of Mexican children finish secundaria (9th grade) opposed to 75 percent of U.S. students who graduate from high school. This is very limiting on what employment opportunities they will have.

The Rotary Club gives students from low income families an opportunity to complete a high school education and, for some, the opportunity to attend college. They pay for the tuition, books, supplies and uniforms. Grades are monitored and the students must maintain an 80% GPA to remain in the program.

They currently manage scholarships for twenty five students who have been selected by their school administrators as being from families of need who cannot afford the costs, but where the students are motivated to continue their educations. With additional funding, the Rotary program could increase the number of students.

Visit their website at www.RotaryAjijic or give direct to their cause through the Foundation and receive a tax deduction on the amount you give. NOTE: If giving through the Foundation for Lake Chapala Charities, please make your donation to "The Les Strong Memorial Education Fund".
