In 2007 Have Hammer began teaching disadvantaged children woodworking and carpentry skills. By July 2012 they have sponsored training to over 250 children around the villages of Lake Chapala. They turn no students away for lack of tuition and seek donations from the public to sponsor children of poor families.

Have Hammer teaches "basic" skills so children can explore carpentry as a career path, "intermediate" skills to help them gain entry level employment, and "advanced" skills for full professional employment.

The purpose of the training is to help children develop woodworking skills and to become carpenters as a way of enhancing their families economic potential.
